"Henryk / Wojciech Duriasz / lives in a nursing home. He spends all his days playing chess. During one of his games, Janina / Ewa Decówna / appears in the club room. Henryk decides to come over and introduce himself. They start a conversation that is interrupted by a small incident. Henryk returns to playing chess.

When Janina comes back to the club room, Henryk sits down at Janina's table. Janina introduces herself again. Henry tries to keep the awkward conversation going, but Janina has to leave again.

Henryk returns to the game of chess, resigned. The next time he sees Janina, he makes one more attempt. This time, Henryk does not give up so easily."
